In advocacy of conservation for sustainable development, Tanzania National Parks Authority introduced the first of an annual edition of Awards dubbed “Tanapa Tourism Awards” that were won by Zara Adventures, arguably the best Kilimanjaro outfitter.
The objective of these awards is to recognize and motivate the key players in the multi-million dollar industry setting a benchmark for service delivery and sustainable tourism development.
Zara Adventure’ s director and chief executive Ms Zainab Ansell received the award from the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Hamis Kigwangala at a colourful ceremony at Mt. Meru Hotel.

Zara was crowned the overall winner of the prestigious awards ceremony having been awarded in three key categories; Best Tour Operator ( Northern Parks); Best Tour Operator (Mountain Climbing) and Best Seasonal/ Special Camp.
Speaking during the awards ceremony, Dr. Kigwangala challenged the private sector to invest in accommodation facilities in the western and southern zone.
He told the well attended event that government priority in the sector now was to promote the southern and western circuits but would also listen to suggestions aimed at improving tourism services.
“The private sector is the engine of growth and we listen to their suggestions so that we enhance our promotion efforts and increase revenues from tourism,” he explained.
Several other firms in the hospitality industry were awarded for excelling in various segments of tour operations, revenue collection, customer care, innovation, conservation and other aspects.
The awards were introduced by the conservation agency in order to motivate the key players in the multi-million-dollar industry, currently leading in foreign exchange earnings.
Tanapa commissioner General, Allan Kijazi said the tourism awards would be an annual event focussed on the local players in the tourism sector.
