Mberaze Mawula Zacchy, the National Unity Platform-NUP party candidate has won the Lubaga Division Mayoral seat.
He was declared by the Rubaga Division Returning Officer, Ongoria Ezra. According to the poll results announced by Ongoria, Zacchy garnered 37,652 votes against 25,718 votes garnered by his closest rival, the Forum For Democratic Change-FDC’s Joyce Ssebugwawo who is the incumbent division mayor.
Other contenders include the National Resistance Movement party candidate, Kawesa Mahad who came third with 8,075 votes followed by independent candidate, Mayanja Semwogerere Nooh Ashraf with 2,390 and Kigonya Angela Namyalo, the Democratic Party candidate with 1467 while Serubiri Paul Andrew, another Independent candidate trailed with 451 votes.
The total number of valid votes cast was 75,753 while invalid ballot papers were 908 and spoilt ballots were 139.
In Kampala Central, the National Resistance Movement’s Salim Saad Uhuru was declared winner after beating off stiff competition from Democratic Party candidate Charles Musoke Sserunjogi. Uhuru garnered 13,114 votes against Sserunjogi’s 10,654 votes.
