Ugandans from all walks of life, will join the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in celebrations to mark the 38th ‘Tarehe Sita’ Anniversary due on Wednesday, February 6th 2018 in the Acholi Sub region.
In a press statement, Brig. Richard Karemire, the UPDF Spokesman said that, the main celebrations would take place at Kitgum Core Primary Teachers College Grounds – Kitgum Municipality and would run under the theme, “UPDF and the People: Consolidating Peace for Sustainable Development and Prosperity”.
“During the Army week commencing on 29th January 2019, the UPDF medical and engineering teams will conduct symbolic civil military activities in all the districts of Acholi sub-region namely: Agago, Amuru, Gulu, Kitgum, Lamwo, Nwoya, Omoro and Pader,” said Brig Karemire.
Adding that, the rest of the UPDF formations and units will carry out other tasks in support of the local communities in their areas of operation.
Tarehe Sita, has become a day in history when Uganda marks the birth of the National Resistance Army (NRA) that metamorphosed into UPDF. On that day in 1981, 43 fighters with 27 rifles led by H.E. the President and Commander in Chief of the UPDF, General Yoweri Museveni, attacked Kabamba Barracks.
