Hamburg, Germany – Uganda’s former World and Olympic Champion Stephen Kiprotich has finished 3rd in his third Haspa Hamburg International Marathon Sunday morning.

Kiprotich clocked 2:08:32 in a race won by Ethiopia’s Tadu Abate in 2:08:26, with countryman Ayele Abshero coming second in 2:08:27.

Last year, Kiprotich clocked 2:07:31 to come second behind another Ethiopian, Ethiopia’s Tsegaye Mekonnen 2:07:26.

Kiprotich, 30, who led for stretches, failed to break away from the chasing park thus dropping back.

He has previously won some major global titles which include the Enschede marathon in 2011 with 2:07:20, the 2012 Olympic and 2013 World Championship victories.

The elite runners, including Uganda’s Kiprotich, will share 300,000 Euros. Marathons are long-distance running races with an official distance of 42.195 kilometres, usually run as a road race.
