Uganda Airlines, the national carrier of Uganda has been recognised as winner of the World’s Youngest Aircraft fleet 2021.
In a post on twitter, ch-aviation said they were happy to announce Uganda Airlines as the World’s Youngest Aircraft Fleet 2021 winner with an average aircraft age of 1.15* years.
“We are excited to announce that @UG_Airlines is the Winner of the “ch-aviation World’s Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award 2021″ and officially operates the youngest aircraft fleet in Africa and worldwide,” Ch-Aviation posted on twitter.
The Ch-Aviation Youngest Aircraft Fleet Award recognises airlines from across the world that keep a young, modern and efficient fleet, and operators using new generation of aircraft that contribute significantly to the increase of CO2 and greenhouse emissions.
The 2021 winners on each continent include Uganda Airlines (Africa), SalamAir (Asia), airBaltic (Europe), Frontier Airlines (North America), Fiji Link (Oceania) and SKY Airline (South America).
According to ch-aviation, the Award is conducted annually and considers over 5,000 airlines and more than 65,000 aircraft around the World to determine which airline currently operates the youngest fleets.
Speaking to Africa Tembelea, Deo Nyanzi, the airlines Marketing Manager said the recognition was a major milestone aligned to the national carrier’s vision of a world class airline.
“Uganda Airlines is honoured to be recognised as the airline with the most modern and youngest aircraft fleet in the world, a major milestone well aligned to our vision of a world class airline,” Nyanzi said.
The airline, which trades as Uganda National Airlines Limited, started commercial operations in August 2019 and currently operates a fleet of four (4) regional jets (CRJ900) and two (2) Airbus A330-800neo.
According to Mr. Nyanzi, these aircraft fleet were carefully selected with the passenger in mind.
“The CRJ900 with new “atmosphere cabin” gives the passenger a more spacious and comfortable cabin experience, offers best in class seats with more leg room as well as more space in the over head stowage bins for your carryon baggage,” he said.
He also noted that the cabin ambiance is adjustable using mood lighting to help ensure an enjoyable and pleasant journey from boarding to disembarkation.
Africa Tembelea has since learnt that the choice of the A330-800neo aircraft for use on Uganda Airlines long haul routes took account of the new technologies incorporated in the aircraft which would bring superior operating and service standards.
In this period of the Covid19 pandemic, the airline notes that the use of HEPA filters with 99.99% effective filtration of microbes and viruses on both the CRJ900 and the A330-800neo ensures that these aircraft offer the best cabin environment of any fleet of aircraft in operation today.
