KAMPALA — Uganda Cranes on Saturday eliminated Somalia team from the on-going 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier after a 4-1 win.
The Cranes defeated the visiting Somalian national football team in a return leg played at the Star Times stadium to advance on 7-2 aggregate.
Striker Patrick Henry Kaddu netted a hat-trick for the home side, and Allan Kyambadde scored the other.
The visiting somalian team got a late consolation goal from skipper Daud Abdullahi Tubal.
“I am happy that we have won by a big margin. But we need to be more cautious in the next round,” Uganda coach Abdallah Mubiru said after the game.
Uganda will now wait to play the winner between Burundi and South Sudan in the final phase of the qualifiers.
Burundi won the first leg 2-0 in Bujumbura last weekend.
The CHAN tournament is played by locally based players playing in the domestic leagues of the respective countries.
The final tournament for CHAN 2020 will be hosted by Cameroon.
