Speaking at the official launch of countrywide Ethiopian Women’s Peace Conference and ‘Jegnit’ (heroine) Social Movement Program earlier today (November 05), President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Sahlework Zewde called on women to play a leading role for the success of the ongoing reform in the country.
The President said women should discharge their responsibilities with the view to achieving the ongoing reform and preventing it from being reversed. Women, she said, should uphold Ethiopia’s rich tradition of conflict resolution mechanisms.
“We should all stand together and safeguard peace as it is the foundation for all things,” said Zewde.
Minister of Peace Muferiat Kamil on her part noted women’s sacrifice and efforts for the current encouraging initiatives of women empowerment in the country. The Minister added that the Peace Conference would offer opportunities for women to play their key role in maintaining peace, teaching about the importance of peace and shaping the generation.
