Kazo, Uganda – The Kazo District NRM Woman Member of Parliament aspirant, Ronah K. Ruranga has warned fellow contestant Molly Kamukama of dire consequences if the Friday vote is rigged in her favour.

In a statement, Ms. Ruranga noted that they have witnessed the voice of the Kazo people coming under attack by election officials allied to Minister Molly Kamukama with the urge to falsify results polled in her favour and tilting them to hers.

“I however want to sound a warning bell to my senior colleague in the race, Molly Kamukama, not to be tempted to steal the peoples’ choice,” Ronah K. Ruranga’s statement read in part.

“To do so will be very, very, very costly to her and whoever else will be a subject of the peoples’ anger,” she said.

Ms Ruranga called on her supporters to remain calm as she awaits the NRM District Elections Officer (DEO) to complete their ‘unnecessarily’ delayed tallying process. She, however said that if her team will not have heard from the DEO by midday on Monday, Molly will only have herself to blame.

“If by Monday, midday, next week, we shall not have heard from the NRM DEO, and obtained our results in a transparent and unaltered manner, Molly will only have herself to blame,” Ronah warned.

In response Molly Kamukama through her social media handles said that ‘numbers dont lie’. She urged her supporters to remain calm and await official communication.

“Good morning friends, despite an attack on the tally centre by one of my opponents & hired goons, I wish to inform all my supporters that I am firmly in the lead to win the @NRMOnline flag bearer position for Kazo Women MP,” Kamukama tweeted on Saturday morning.

“I urge you keep calm & await official communication. Numbers don’t lie,” she added.

Below is Ruranga’s Statement in Full

To you all, the people of Kazo District and to you all, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) fraternity, I greet you.

Permit me to say thank you for your overwhelming support to me, in particular, and to you all my colleagues, in the race in general.

As the NRM, we are defined by values. These values are hinged on the bedrock of our history. Our history is that which the founders of NRM built on their rage and dissatisfaction with the rigged elections of 1980. It is that history that warns us against a repeat of such skirmish.

Surprisingly, in every electoral cycle, we appear to have learnt nothing and forgotten nothing. Every time we go to the polls, the voice of the people is suffocated by those whose only claim to leadership is either their stolen wealth or their connections.

Here in Kazo, we did witness the voice of the people coming under attack by election officials allied to Minister Molly Kamukama with the urge to falsify results polled in my favour and tilting them to her favour.

To their credit, the people have come up with one voice and said no to this practice and they are prepared, more than ever before, not to just regard it as unacceptable but also to treat it as something that won’t leave them sitting and watching helplessly.

Of the (10) ten Sub Counties, Molly only won in Burunga Sub County (and won after her paid agents had falsified results).

We won in

1.Nkungu Sub County.

2.Kazo Sub County,

3.Kyampangara.

4.Rwemikooma.

5.Kanoni Sub County.

6.Migina Sub County.

7.Buremba Sub County.

My good sister, Ann Lumumba won in Kazo Town Council only while my elder sister, Mrs Muheesi won in Engari Sub County.

Overall, I came 1st, Mrs. Jeniffer Muheesi came 2nd and Ann Lumumba came 3rd. This was as early as the entire of poll returns from all the 346 polling stations in our district, by 4:00pm today.

Surprisingly, towards Midnight, efforts were already underway to steal the people’s voice and accord it to Molly Kamukama but the people as well as my other colleagues in the race said NO and declared a full stop to this graft.

I therefore want to congratulate the NRM fraternity in Kazo district for the invaluable support they rendered to our cause.

I would like to give you my most sincere assurances that your trust is not in vain.

As we await the NRM District Elections Officer(DEO) to complete their unnecessarily delayed tallying process, I appeal for calm from our supporters.

I however want to sound a warning bell to my senior colleague in the race, Molly Kamukama, not to be tempted to steal the peoples’ choice. To do so will be very, very, very costly to her and whoever else will be a subject of the peoples’ anger.

If by Monday, midday, next week, we shall not have heard from the NRM DEO, and obtained our results in a transparent and unaltered manner, Molly will only have herself to blame.

Let no one fault us for not forewarning them.

Lest I forget, we will be meeting Dr. Tanga Odoi on Sunday at Mid-day. Whoever can, please make time and attend.

I thank you.

Ronah K. Ruranga.

NRM (Flagbearer) Woman Member of Parliament, Kazo District.
