President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated Tourism Uganda for winning gold at the just concluded Indaba Tourism Fair in Durban, South Africa. Uganda emerged best exhibitor for the third time in the category of Southern African Development Community and Africa as a whole, beating Namibia and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to the award.
“I congratulate and thank Team Uganda that showcased to the world the exceptional natural resource endowments for tourist attraction in the Pearl of Africa, and won us this recognition in Durban,” President Museveni said.
The president who was in a jovial mood, added that, “the true spirit of the people of Uganda and the beauty of our land continue to get deserving recognition across the world, irrespective of the few elements that are working hard to tarnish our image and other developments.”
Museveni said that the NRM government will not abdicate its responsibility to fight these elements.
Tourism Minister Prof Ephraim Kamuntu who presented the Gold Award to president Museveni, also handed him a goodwill message from His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa.
The president said that his South African counterpart, had taken keen interest in resolving the unnecessary bureaucracy Ugandans are subjected to when seeking South African visas.
He said Ugandans should be allowed to get visas on entry in South Africa just as we do with them here.
