Christmas is one of the most celebrated holidays in Uganda with tourists traversing the country in search of quality spots to take in and enjoy. Being a time to unwind, Lake Bunyonyi is surely the place to be for Christmas!

Nestled in the extreme south western corner of Uganda, dotted with 29 islands and overlooked by rolling hills, Lake Bunyonyi is one of Uganda’s most picturesque locations.

The name of the lake translates as the ‘place of little birds‘ and it is indeed blessed with some 200 different bird species including several varieties of weavers that nest by the lakeshore and on the many islands. It is also probably the best place in Uganda to spot otters.

The lake is said to be up to 900m deep in some parts of the water, however, this has never been verified. If true, it would make Lake Bunyonyi the second deepest lake on the African continent, with only Lake Tanganyika being more deep.

Many tourists who have been to Lake Bunyonyi say it has a charm and is well worth a visit. Available around the lake properties are mountain bikes, canoes, boats, fishing rod, pool table, gym, table tennis, volley ball and football pitch for your entertainment.

However, if you are planning a trip to Lake Bunyonyi with kids, finding the perfect place to stay is crucial to having a good family vacation.
