Kampala city Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has appointed Ms. Doreen Nyanjura, the Makerere University Kampala Woman councilor as his deputy, replacing Ms. Sarah Kanyike.

Lukwago made the announcement this morning at the Lord Mayor’s parlour at City Hall, following the resignation of Sarah Kanyike, who said she is retiring from active politics.

The Lord Mayor said he had accepted Ms. Kanyike’s resignation in good faith, although he had previously pleaded with her to reject the nomination. Kanyike, the Makindye East Woman councilor has served as deputy lord since 2016.

Lukwago also appointed Moses Kataabu, the councillor Kampala Central Division to replace Doreen Nyanjura’s duties as the executive secretary in charge of finance.

Africa Tembelea has learnt that both Nyanjura and Kataabu will be presented before the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Council for approval.  Council is expected to convene on Monday, June 22.

Kanyike was last week nominated by President Yoweri Museveni to take up the position of director Gender, Community Service and Production at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). Other appointments included that of Dr. Daniel Okello Ayen, who was confirmed as the director of public health and environment and Ms. Grace Akullo, who was nominated as the new director of human resource and administration, replacing Mr. Richard Lule.

In a related development, Africa Tembelea understands that Mr. Kitaka and Mr. Sam Sserunkuuma, who was the acting deputy executive director, will retain their substantive positions as director of engineering and technical services and revenue collections, respectively.
