Vulnerable people in Kasese District on Monday stormed the office of the Resident District Commissioner demanding for relief food.
The group which includes the elderly and widows accuse the Covid-19 task force of intentionally distributing food to the less needy.
Yosefina Nyirabuto staying with her three grandchildren from Karusandara Sub County says she had to trek to the RDC’s office because she has nothing to feed her family. She says that apart from the impact of the lockdown, her domestic gardens say the recent floods destroyed all her food items.
Mate Jeremaih a single father from Bugoye Sub County, says they have been waiting for relief food in vain.
Coupled with a limping agriculture season Mate wants the task force to extend relief to every part of the district.
Mbambu Muhindi wants the government to give special consideration for the people whose sources of income and livelihoods have been affected by the lock-down.
Joshua Masereka, the Deputy RDC Kasese acknowledges that there a growing demand for food among the vulnerable.
Meanwhile, the Rwenzururu Kingdom has donated relief food to the needy. The relief includes 1,500 Kgs of Cassava flour was handed over on Monday to the District COVID- 19 task force.
Nyakango Thembo the Kingdom’s Minister of Culture and Tourism who led the team said that the relief food follows a request by Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere asking kingdom official to mobilise relief towards the cause.
