Elephants Invade Anaka Town Council

Two elephants have invaded Ceke Ward Biadri vilage in Anaka Town Council, Nwoya district.

According to URN, the elephants that invaded the area on Sunday at around 10:00 AM could have come from Murchison falls National Park.

Christopher Opira, a resident of the area says two acres of his banana plantation was destroyed by the elephants on Sunday.
He says the elephants were on the verge of crossing ceke stream heading towards Lungulu sub county.

Patrick Okello Oryema, the LCV chairperson Nwoya district says the two elephants have destroyed close to 15 acres of food crops including maize and bananas among other crops in the affected area.

According to Oryema they informed Uganda Wild Life Authority officials on Monday to come and control the elephants and protect the affected residents.

Africa Tembelea has learnt that a team of rangers have been dispatched to the area to drive the elephants back to the park.

Recently, UWA announced of plans to install a 30 kilometers of low voltage electric fencing in major human-wildlife conflict hotpots in Murchison falls National Park.
