Kampala, Uganda – The government has cleared, the People Power to deliver relief to the National Coronavirus Task Force.
Last week, the People power movement and its teams had started distributing relief items to the most vulnerable people affected by the Lockdown in parts of Kampala, but were stopped by the Government.
According to URN, the relief items including flour, beans, salt and soap will be handed over to the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.
Mr. Joel Ssenyonyi, the People Power Spokesperson says, they initially thought that the task force would pick the items on Tuesday from the People Power headquarters in Kamwokya.
He says, particulars and quantity of all items to be handed over to the task force will be disclosed.
“They assured us that we will be able to handover the food tomorrow, so we have been cleared, and so we will hand over all the items tomorrow and hope is that it will reach the needy at this point, ” Ssenyonyi told URN.
Government is currently distributing relief food to 1.5 million Ugandans in parts of Kampala and Wakiso. Each of these are getting six kilograms of flour, three kilograms of beans, and salt, while lactating mothers and the sick are being given two kilograms of sugar and two kilograms of powdered milk.
According to the ministry of health, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Uganda still stands at 52, and all are in stable condition.
