Entebbe, Uganda – Renown Senegalese – American Musician, Investor and Philanthropist Mr. Aliaune Damala Badara Thiam, famously known as Akon arrived Uganda this morning for a business visit, the foreign affairs ministry said in a statement.
The global music star’s visit follows that of his wife Ms. Rozina Negusir who earlier this year had the opportunity to meet President Museveni, and they discussed different investment opportunities.
“We thank God for granting journey mercies that have delivered our son Akon and his delegation safely to Uganda,” said Abbey Walusimbi, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs.
Also at Entebbe International Airport to receive Mr. Thiam, were Musician and Tourism Goodwill Ambassador Eddie Kenzo, Sheik Ramadhan Mulindwa from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and other Government Officials.
Africa Tembelea has learnt that Akon who will be visiting some tourist sites and religious institutions during his stay in Uganda, is also scheduled to meet Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni with whom they will discuss different investment opportunities in sectors such as Energy, Tourism, Infrastructure development among others.
Mr Isaac Kigozi, the Trade and Investment officer in the office of the president, told reporters that the country was blessed to host Akon an established business investor and a music star who has never given up on the African dream.
In 2018, Akon announced plans to establish a $6 billion futuristic Pan-African smart city in Senegal dubbed “Akon City”. Supported by the Senegalese Government, the 800-hectare solar-powered city will feature shopping malls music studios, tourist resorts among other attractions.
Uganda hopes that the singer can reciprocate the same here.
