Bunyangabu District leaders are on the spot for failing to account for funds meant for the Agro-Industrialization for Economic Development (AGRILED) project.
AGRILED is an initiative launched in the Rwenzori Region last year and seeks to transform the local government system to facilitate effective business-oriented local development through setting up agro- processing industries.
In 2018 the district received 100 million shillings from the Ministry of Local Government meant for the financial years 2019/2010 to 2021/2022.
in August the district council instituted a six man’s committee led by Turyahebwa Remegious the councillor representing Rwimi Sub County to investigate allegations of financial mismanagement of the project.
In the findings presented to the District Plan on Wednesday, the committee discovered that 16 million shillings had not been accounted for and there were forgeries of documents.
The report also faults the technical staff for signing for allowances for activities they never carried out while some presented receipts for fuel which they used in their private vehicles.
The report pinned the LCV Chairperson Ategeka Mugarama who has been told to refund three million shillings and the Chief Administrative Officer Peter Nsungwa Ruhweza to refund 1.6 million shillings.
However, Mugarama refuted the report findings, saying that the funds were not misused.
