Singer Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool who faced it rough on Friday night during Jamaican artist, Tarrus Riley’s concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval has announced that he is quitting public performances till further notice.
In a post on his face book page, Bebe Cool, the self-claimed ‘Big Size’ noted that he has been in the music business for more than 20 years and that that he had contributed immensely to the development of the Ugandan, East African & African entertainment industry.
“It gives me great pride to witness several young musicians, comedians, instrumentalists and promoters make a fine living in this entertainment industry. In this same industry, I have built a life for myself, my family, friends and many dependents” he said.
Bebe Cool, who is very close to President Yoweri Museveni and a known critic of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, was saved by police from angry revellers who booed and hurled plastic bottles at him as soon as he got on stage at Lugogo.
Revelers’ started shouting ‘vaayo, vaayo’ (implying go away), calls the musician ignored forcing the organisers to switch off his mic and lights.
With his hands stretched out, Bebe Cool invited the angry revellers who were now chanting pro-Bobi Wine and ‘People Power’ slogans to continue assaulting him to which they obliged.
“For the last few weeks, I had chosen silence as a means to exercise my tolerance for the political events that are currently transpiring in the country. Unfortunately, while at a performance last Friday, I was pelted with bottles and stones by a group of people purportedly because I do not subscribe to their political beliefs,” noted Bebe Cool.
“For the safety of myself, family, friends and fans, I regrettably would like to announce that I will not be making any public performances until further notice”
“My prayer is that the current situation in our beloved country doesn’t deteriorate into an unfortunate state” he added
