ANT’s Barbara Allimadi Found Dead at Her House in Kiwatule

Barbara Allimadi, the International Affairs Secretary at the Alliance for National Transformation-ANT has Monday night been found dead in her house in Kiwatule, a Kampala suburb.

Details of her sudden death remain scanty. However, a statement from her Family reads:

“Family and friends, it is with a very heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of our sister Barbara Allimadi.

Barbara was a much loved sister, aunty and cousin. She was also an activist, a champion of justice and democracy in Uganda. She will be greatly missed,”

According to her brother, Milton Allimadi, the family will provide more information in the near future. At this point, “the family asks that the public respect their privacy as they mourn their beloved sister.”

Barbara shot to fame in 2012 when she led a group of FDC women supporters and stripped before police officers protesting the manhandling of FDC Iron Lady Ingrid Turinawe.

She studied at Nakasero primary school after which traveled abroad. [Barbara had just joined Gayaza High School in 1985, when the Obote II government, in which her father Eriphas Otema Allimadi served as prime minister, was overthrown and the family went into exile.]

Allimadi, attained a degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the London Metropolitan University.

Her father, served as Uganda’s Foreign Minister (1979–1980), and Prime Minister of Uganda from 1980–1985. He died in 2001, while her mother Alice Lamunu Allimadi passed on in 2007.
