Amdec Group has officially opened its AC Hotel Cape Town Waterfront at The Yacht Club.
The 188-room establishment is the first AC Hotel by Marriott in the Middle East and Africa (MEA). It boasts an unrivaled location and rooms with unparalleled views of Cape Town’s star attractions like Lion’s Head, Signal Hill and Table Mountain.
To many, its greatest appeal is its location within The Yacht Club development, which offers easy access via road, walkways, and water taxi to the Cape Town International Convention Centre, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, and the city’s central business district and harbour areas.
Developed by the Amdec Group, The Yacht Club is located within the Roggebaai Canal precinct just outside the V&A Waterfront; it comprises 170 luxury residential apartments, 6307m2 of prime office space, and the AC Hotel Cape Town Waterfront.
James Wilson, CEO of the Amdec Group had this to say at the launch:
“We are proud to pave the way for Marriott International’s growth plans in Africa and help to open up new markets for the world’s leading hotel company and its many loyal guests from around the globe”
Adding that, “It is exciting to be part of creating new dimensions to hospitality and tourism in the country and, by doing so, providing more opportunities for visitors and locals alike.”
“The Yacht Club is the second in our portfolio of iconic precincts to welcome Marriott, with Melrose Arch in Johannesburg being the first, and Harbour Arch in Cape Town, to follow,” said Wilson.
“We are thrilled with the AC Hotel Cape Town Waterfront and we believe it will provide another great place for international tourists to stay when visiting Cape Town,” Wilson added.
The aesthetic of the AC Hotel Cape Town Waterfront celebrates the brand’s European soul and Spanish roots, with classic, modern design.
Guests have access to the social hub that is the signature AC Lounge, the AC Market (for convenient and delicious food offerings), the AC Library (a quiet space for reflection, with a wealth of reading material), a fully-equipped fitness centre, and 250m2 of event space, including meeting rooms and a boardroom.
The hotel also includes green initiatives such as desalination plant, population sensor lighting that saves power, heat pumps to supply hot water that eliminates the use of heat elements, and biodegradable straws and packaging.
“We are delighted to open our very first AC Hotel by Marriott in Middle East and Africa in Cape Town, further strengthening our long-standing partnership with the Amdec Group,” said Alex Kyriakidis, President and Managing Director Middle East and Africa Marriott International.
“The opening of this hotel reinforces our commitment to driving growth for our lifestyle brands in South Africa in response to a continued demand from discerning travelers seeking hotels with style and functional design, while also providing unique and authentic experiences,” Kyriakidis added.
In 2016, the Amdec Group announced that it would inject R3 billion into the development of five iconic new hotels in an ongoing partnership with Marriott International – one at The Yacht Club in Cape Town, two at the Amdec Group’s Melrose Arch iconic mixed-use precinct in Johannesburg, and a further two at Harbour Arch, the group’s upcoming inner-city development at the gateway to the Cape Town Central Business District.
