Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – The national career, Air Tanzania Company Limited-ATCL has suspended what was supposed to be its maiden flight to Guangzhou citing Covid-19 control measures put in place by the Guangdong local authority.

“ Air Tanzania Company Limited would like to inform the public that due to the current pressure and capacity limit of Guangdong Local Government on COVId 19 control and prevention for Inbound Flights, the scheduled Air Tanzania Maiden Flight from Dar-es-Salaam to Guangzhou has been suspended,” ATCL Managing Director, Ladislaus Matindi said in a statement posted on the Airlines twitter handle.

“Air Tanzania apologizes for any inconveniences caused,” he added.

The carrier had last month announced that it would embark on long haul flights to China using one of its latest aircrafts, the Dreamliner.

“We will be flying weekly on Saturday at 5am in the morning to arrive around 9pm China time in China and fly back to Tanzania same time on Sunday around 5am,” Matindi told journalists on Friday, March 5, 2021.

It is however not clear whether there were new containment measures in Guangzhou but the company said new dates for the long awaited maiden flight would be announced soon.
