Africa’s Youngest Billionaire Mohammed Dewji Kidnapped In Tanzania

Tanzanian billionaire businessman and sponsor of Tanzania Premier League champions Simba, Mohammed Dewji has been kidnapped outside a gym by unknown armed men in Dar es Salaam.

The 43-year-old tycoon was reportedly abducted by two white men and an unknown number of armed accomplices who had waylaid him at the Colosseum Hotel and Fitness Club around 5.00am.

Konondoni province police commander Jumanne Muliro has confirmed receiving the news.

“We have received the news of Simba sponsor Mo Dewji missing and we are acting on them. For now we treat them as just reports”

The kidnappers, who it is said were in two vehicles, arrived before Mr. Dewji and parked at the hotel.

After the businessman arrived and parked his vehicle, two of the kidnappers are said to have walked towards him and pulled him into their vehicle before speeding off.

According to Forbes, Dewji has an estimated net worth of US$1.54 billion (Sh1.54 trillion), and is the 17th richest person in Africa. He is Africa’s youngest billionaire.

Dewji was the first Tanzanian to be featured on the cover of Forbes Magazine in 2013 and has been featured on three separate occasions.

He is the president and owner of MeTL Group, a Tanzanian conglomerate founded by his father in the 1970s.

He is also a shareholder in the famous Simba Club in Dar es Salaam.
